In this year’s Depth of Field series, the Graphic Communication Design programme have opened their lectures to the public for the first time. The aim of the series is to open up space for considering the most urgent and relevant questions in the education and industry of graphic communication design and place them in their social, environmental and historical contexts.
This first lecture is delivered by Kelly Walters, Assistant Professor of Communication Design at Parsons School of Design, and Anoushka Khandwala, Lecturer on BA Graphic Communication Design at Central Saint Martins. As a follow-up to their recently published discussion in Eye on Design, ‘On Breaking Down Power Structures, Navigating Tokenism + Building Community in Design Education’, Kelly and Anoushka elaborate on how personal journey and identity has shaped how they design and how they make. Their hope is to create a dialogue that supports emerging designers to be in touch with their own identities as a key aspect of developing their practice.
Kelly and Anoushka each speak for 15 minutes, followed by a moderated discussion of approximately 30 minutes.
