Existing resources for staff and students at UAL
- Art or Algorithm (published 11 March 2025). This Arts Student Union research report explores UAL students perspective on the use of AI in Arts education and industries.
- Artificial Intelligence – Guidance on information governance and risks (published 14 February 2025) – this document emphasises UAL staff accountability for information processed by AI, highlighting risks such as data breaches (think GDPR) and unreliable outputs. While advising caution when using AI tools, it also outlines steps for ensuring data protection and accuracy of information generated by AI.
- UAL’s Community of practice open to all staff in MS Teams – it focuses on teaching and academic practice, ethical concerns in relation to AI, etc. A good place to find out about upcoming events with announcements and sharing of resources.
- LCC have created a list of AI tools embedded in existing UAL platforms and tools and a basic guide on how to access them. They include Miro, Padlet, Moodle and others.
- CSM Library have created a reading list about AI for students and staff available here for signposting. If you want to contribute please get in touch.

- AI in Art and Design Education – Panel discussion
Join us for a panel discussion exploring the use of AI in Art and Design education, specifically regarding its impact on assessment.
Please book via ESS: Book AI in Art and Design Education - A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about AI is due to be published by UAL very soon. The resource will focus on providing practical advice responding to concrete issues encountered by teaching staff: does UAL provide a generative AI which is safe to use, what to do if you suspect your students are using AI unethically, etc.
- A UAL wide Practice sharing event on AI in partnership with The Council for Higher Education in Art & Design (CHEAD) is scheduled to take place online on the 18th June 2025. A call for presentation is due to go out soon.

- JISC on Artificial Intelligence
Jisc is the long-standing UK digital, data and technology agency focused on tertiary education, research and innovation. They provide leadership across the HE sector on a wide range of topics related to digital. All UAL staff have access to their resources for free as the university is an institutional member.
The JISC AI website has a wealth of resources contextualised for HE responding to the current challenges posed by AI at practice and organisational levels.
They offer access to a lively community of practice online via their AI in Education (AIED) email discussion group. For up-to-date and archived discussions as well as sharing. The range of subjects discussed is open and varied inclduding ethics, assessment, teaching, access.Lots of UK events, papers, webinars and training from across HE and FE.
- Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) on AI
QAA have created a specific website with links to resources about AI in teaching in UK higher education. It includes topics about ethical use, engaging with AI in teaching and learning and is updated regularly.
