Finding out what people think, with Mentimeter
Since October 2025, students and staff across CSM and UAL have been trying out Mentimeter as part of a pilot to see how it can support teaching and learning, and make meetings more productive.
There are nearly 100 staff users at CSM, and this year, across UAL, Mentimeter has supported:
- 714 live presentations
- 5127 questions asked
- 58700 opinions shared
UAL’s most prolific Superuser is CSM’s own Tony Quinn, with over 10 000 student contributions and 50 active mentis!
‘Mentimeter in its most simple form, enables students to have voice in complex or intimidating situations with absolute anonymity. Once we accept this possibility, then Mentimeter’s functionality allows for playful engagement that prompts thoughtful, well-reasoned and impactful participatory feedback from student communities. It has been an essential tool in building our community for some time.’
Anthony Quinn, Course Leader, BA Ceramic Design
What do people like about it?
Mentimeter is to use. It doesn’t require much setup and can be dropped into a session without disrupting the flow. It is useful for quick check‑ins, starting discussions, making decisions in meetings, or finding out what students have understood before moving on.
From ranking, to scales, polls and Q&A, there are lots of different question types to choose from. Responding anonymously makes it easier for everyone to contribute.
During the pilot, the most popular question types have been:
- Open-ended 23%
- Multiple-choice 19%
- Word cloud 11%
Tanyeem Hussein, Student Learning and Engagement Manager, has been using Mentimeter regularly with students and staff.
‘Menti is useful for raising confidence in participants to share their thoughts anonymously; it contributes to creating a safe environment for discussion and most importantly, it’s interactive and fun!’
Tanyeem Hussain, Student Learning and Engagement Manager
It can also create a space for dialogue, especially in larger sessions. Jaap de Maat has been using it with Graphic Communication Design students.
‘I’ve been using Mentimeter as part of Stage 2 lectures with all 150 students, where keeping engagement and involvement can be challenging. Mentimeter has made a real difference here, it helps to create a meaningful dialogue with the students, transforming what could be a one-way delivery into something more interactive and responsive.’
Jaap de Maat, Stage Leader, Graphic Communication Design
